The Duron Family Band
Especially For You
66 songs spanning decades of musical heritage
Listen on YouTubeIntroduction
The idea of this music project was forged some 20 years ago at the family kitchen table in the wee hours of the morning. My father and I had just finished playing a dance at one of our local clubs. We sat down and started to talk about our younger years in music. These counseling discussions in the early morning are referred to as a "Consejero" in Spanish, better known as a Dutch Uncle talk or fatherly advice to a son. During these talks, my mother would wake up to make us breakfast, as was customary in Spanish culture. My father began to reminisce about us boys being young and in the family band with him as the leader. Those were definitely the good old days! This glorious time ended in the 60's. As we grew older, we created our own bands and explored various musical genres.
It's been over 60 years since we, as a family band, recorded together. My father did not live long enough to see his dream fulfilled. There were other members like our cousin, Pablo Cruz (AKA Mr. Las Vegas), who passed suddenly, followed by our brother, Tony Jr. who passed while we were still recording these tracks. We dedicate this album to our family that has passed on, as they would have been in these recordings if they were still with us.
The universe is God's orchestra, and we are just instruments. We hope you enjoy the selection of songs we have chosen especially for you.

Linnea (Duron) Hjelm
Linnea sang her first solo at her great Uncle Tony's surprise birthday when she was two. From there, Linnea sang in the church choir, took classical piano lessons for over a decade, and was in musicals and choirs throughout high school, even performing at the World Choir Games. At Hope College, Linnea was the lead vocalist for an Appalachian bluegrass folk band and sang in the top choir. Since she finished her PhD, she frequents the karaoke bar to share her talents.
Alma (Duron) Bouwens
Alma grew up loving the rhythm of music, and it took her in the direction of dance. For many years, Alma and her husband Geno danced the polka competitively, while Alma taught dance for over 50 years. When she was asked to contribute to this family album, Alma felt honored to represent her late sister Irma, who was one of the original singers of the Duron Family Band and is loved and missed very much.
